GET TO KNOW JERRY STARNES:

Jerry Starnes was elected to the Prattville City Council in 2012. He grew up in Prattville.  Jerry graduated from Prattville High School in 1986 and from Troy State University in 1991 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. He later earned his master’s degree in Justice Public Safety from Auburn University in Montgomery.


Starnes began work for the State of Alabama in 1993. He served as a Correctional Officer for three years with the Department of Corrections before going to work with the Department of Public Safety as an Executive Security Officer at the Governor’s Mansion. In 1998, he began work with the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles and is currently assigned to Autauga County as Probation and Parole District Manager.

He currently serves as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Alabama Army National Guard where he has served for 27 years. He served a tour in Iraq from 2004 to 2005 as a Military Police Officer and was awarded the Purple Heart in November 2005.

 

He is a member of the Alabama Council on Crime and Delinquency; he serves as the Treasurer and is the President of the Community Corrections Board (Elmore and Autauga County). Jerry is also a member of the Prattville Chamber of Commerce, Prattville Y.M.C.A. Board of Managers, and a graduate of the Autauga County Leadership.
 

He and his wife, Dawn, attend First United Methodist Church where Jerry serves as an usher and Dawn on the hospitality team.  They share three children together.  Ana Grace, a nurse at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, Jack, a senior at UAB, and Jett, a senior at Troy University.
